New General Manager for Hotel Theodore
Congratulations to Alan Klein for his new role as General Manager of the Joie de Vivre property currently named Hotel Theodore. Alan was formerly the GM of the Westward Look Resort in Tucson for more than 11 years and was the 2010 Chair of the Southern Arizona Lodging and Resort Association (SALARA). Originally from Scottsdale, Alan is excited to be back in the Valley and we're excited to welcome him home.
Montelucia Resort & Spa Purchased
Denver firm KSL Capital Partners LLC has purchased the InterContinental Montelucia Resort & Spa, a 293-room luxury property in Scottsdale. In its statement, KSL indicated it will drop the InterContinental brand from the resort's name but it will remain a part of the InterContinental Hotels & Resort's reservations and rewards program. KSL's resort management affiliate will take over management of the property from InterContinental. KSL Resorts manages seven other hotels, including Vail Mountain Lodge & Spa as well as four in southern California.
MLB-Themed Cactus Statues Promote the All Star Game
To promote the 2011 MLB All-Star Game festivities taking place July 8-12 in Phoenix, Major League Baseball has teamed up with Forever Collectibles to design a series of MLB-themed cactus statues entitled "Cacti on Parade". A total of 10 statues in four designs measuring seven and a half feet tall and weighing 700 pounds will be stationed throughout the Valley from June through mid-July. Each cactus is designed with bold graphics celebrating the All-Star Game, the Arizona Diamondbacks, or the American and National Leagues. In addition, one of the statues will commemorate significant milestones in Diamondbacks history. Locations for the MLB All-Star Game decorated cactus include Scottsdale Fashion Square and Tommy Bahama's Restaurant & Bar at Kierland Commons.
